Report on the Church Service at Leeds Minster
Our President John Aldersley attended the Annual Church Service and read the lesson at Leeds Minster on Sunday 11th May 2025. Here is a short report from John and a few comments below….

“I would like to thank Canon Paul Maybury, for inviting us to Leeds Minster and meeting Paul’s wife Sarah and members of the congregation. We had the usual warm welcome. It was a lovely warm day and very pleasant in the Minster.
I would like to thank Malcolm & Lynne Murray, Eddie Battye and his wife Rose, Howard Kingswell and our vice-president Graham Roper for their support. I also had messages from Harry Soutar, Martins Golubevs, Isaac Auty, Cameron Pinder and Sam Wilkinson wishing me luck.
The reading was a brief and easy one, which I was grateful for. Other than the word ‘window’ which I corrected to ‘widow’, I enjoyed the reading.
A few nice hymns were sung. Canon Paul and his team of helpers were very impressive as usual. The choir sang beautifully with the organist accompanying them.
My wife Jill and I left soon after the service with the others going for a coffee then to ‘The Palace’ for some lunch.”

I look forward to seeing you all in September. We have three visits arranged for September, October and November. Malcolm will be in touch later with his newsletters and Gordon will be keeping you all informed of goings-on via the website. We have the Solstice event on the 19th June with ‘French Bowls’ and the Golf Tournament on the 1st July.
Thank you for all the support, especially the new members for joining us.
J. Aldersley – President – May 2025

Below is a photograph taken by John (with unavoidable reflections !) of the commemorative plaque that the association presented to Leeds Minster almost ten years ago. It is on permanent display in the church….
