6. Correspondence. We received a nice letter from George Scholes the young Scout who is to attend the World Scout Jamboree in South Korea. He attended our Annual Dinner and was the recipient of the funds raised from the raffle. George has to raise his own funding in order to attend the Jamboree. George is the Grandson of council member Ian Scholes.
7. Membership. Nothing to report.
8. Current Programme. Our final outing this session will be the annual Solstice walk this will be a short walk around the Cromwell Bottom Nature Reserve at Elland. This will be followed by a meal at the Casa Public House. Members can bring their partners and the Association will subsidise the meal by £13 per person. Those who are attending should purchase their own drinks. A notice for the event will be circulated by email along with a menu for the food which should be pre- booked by responding to the emailed notice.
9. Next Session. Mr. Murray has received an email from a company called All Sea Global. He had read an article in which they described moving an 8,000 Tonne Press 13,000 miles to be installed at Forge Masters of Sheffield so Mr. Murray has written to them asking if they could give a talk on how they did it? We have an offer of a talk and visit by Steve Gledhill one of our members who has a business at Hightown. Mr. Town said he will send a list of companies that he deals with through his job where you can have virtual factory tours. These are something that have been introduced since the Covid-19 pandemic. He feels sure that some of these companies may go back to actual real world visits once the pandemic is under control.
Suggestions for next session :-
Poynton Engine Museum (Saturday Visit)
Ellenroad Steam Museum (Machines in steam first Sunday each month)
Avro Museum in Chester
Mining Museum, Wakefield
Sherburn Air Museum (Neil one of our members has a pilot’s license)
Museum at Wigan Pier (working machinery)
Queens Mill at Burnley
Bancroft Mills Steam Museum in Barnoldswick (opens most Saturdays & Sundays).
Anderton Boat Lift
10. Website. Nothing to report other than it is all up to date. Mr. Yates will send photographs of the steam motorcycle to be added to the website.
11. Annual Golf Tournament. Mr. Stacey sent a status report by email as he was unable to attend the council meeting. He reported that all arrangements are in hand for the 12th July. He will shortly send out an email to sponsors and players, payments and times etc. This will include the Leeds Association of Engineers bank details in order to give entrants a chance to pay by bank transfer before the event. Otherwise he will accept cash or cheques to the association on the day. He will ask that all players let him know in advance their preferred method of payment and that anyone paying by bank transfer to include their name + golf participant as a reference. He will check with Mr. Kibler before the event whose payment has been received. He will visit the golf club in mid- June to confirm meal arrangements. When he has details of the menu he will send out another email to let non golfers know the arrangements and price for the three course meal including wine which he is hopeful of keeping to £15-00 per head. Mr. Stacey asked whether Gerry Allen has been made aware that he was made a honorary life member of Leeds Association of Engineers at the last A.G.M. Please let Mr. Stacey know so he can tell Gerry when he speaks to him. Gerry is once again volunteering his services in meeting and greeting at this year’s tournament.
12. Church Service. All went well according to those in attendance. Mr Murray commented that the church seemed very quiet perhaps the result of Covid-19. Mr Town commented that the first time he saw the reading he was to make was just prior to the service.
13. Student Award. Mr. Bentley commented that in the past it proved impossible to get candidates for a student award. Now we have Mr. Aldersley (Vice President) working in Leeds City College he will hopefully be able to find candidates for the future.
Any other Business. Having no other business Mr. Town closed the meeting after thanking those who attended.
