A talk on his experiences – Thursday 29th January 2026

Title : How I became a WorldSkills CNC Milling Gold Medallist in eighteen months.

Our student member Ben, along with his colleagues at Kirkstall Precision Engineering, has had great success in the World Skills competition during which he excelled exhibiting his skills in Computer Aided Design and Machining.

Tonight he will give a talk on his experiences as a young engineer in the fast changing world of engineering technology.

Here are Ben’s own words:-

“In the talk, I share how I went from dropping out of university and having no idea what my passion was, to competing in World Skills in less than two years.
I’ll explore the challenges I faced after university and how those who you meet combined with focus and dedication, can change your life.”

Come along and support Ben this evening…

This evening’s talk was to have been given by Cameron Pinder and Ben kindly stepped up to the mark in his place. Cameron has been given the opportunity to do some training in Wales and on to the UAE and there is talk of a visit to China, so he will have plenty to talk about later. Watch this space for a talk by Cameron in the future…..

As is the custom after Ben’s talk we will retire to a local hostelry after the meeting for refreshments and socialising…..
