Across Africa by Jowett….

Tonight we hear from Paul Beaumont the story of Jowett crossing Africa….

You will recall that Paul previously gave us a talk on the history of Jowett Cars. Below are his words describing what you will hear this evening….

In 1925 Frank Gray, one time MP for Oxford threw down a challenge to the British motor industry to demonstrate that their cars were capable of crossing Africa from West to east. This challenge was accepted only by Jowett Cars Ltd who provided 2 off 7hp (RAC formula) cars for the challenge. When doubts were raised about the chances of success William Jowett’s comment was “Wait and See” the 2 cars were duly sign written “Wait” and “See”. The talk will tell the story of this pioneering adventure, illustrated by period, black and white pictures.

Come along to hear this interesting story….  As usual we will retire afterwards to a local hostelry for refreshments and to continue with the social side of the evening.

The event will be held at  our usual meeting place: the REA Scandinavia Trust Meeting Room at Cleckheaton.
