Session Opening Lecture

Our opening lecture will be a treat for all motor fans as tonight we have Paul Beaumont from the Jowett Cars Owners Club coming along to talk to us about what was once our very own local car manufacturer in Bradford.

Jowett was a manufacturer of light cars and light commercial vehicles in Bradford, West Riding of Yorkshire, England from 1906 to 1954.

Some of you will remember the late Bill Shelton who was Honorary Secretary of the Leeds Association of Engineers for many years. Bill, who was a Jowett apprentice, was once the proud owner of a Jowett Bradford Van and rued the day that he sold it. Vehicles used to have such exotic names as ‘Speedster’ and ‘Continental’ but the best the marketing minds at Jowett could come up with was ‘Bradford Van’ !!!

Come along and hear Paul tell us tales of Jowett Cars…..

As usual we will retire to a local hostelry for refreshments and further socialising after the lecture.
