Lecture ‘Thunderbolt‘ Thursday 28th September 2023 by Mark Batchelor

This lecture was planned to be held in March 2023 but had to be cancelled due to the speaker’s illness. Mark has kindly agreed to reschedule his talk for the first event in the 2023/2024 session of events. Please come along and show your support….

The Leeds Grammar School Locomotive

A talk about the history and recent restoration of a miniature steam locomotive, built 50 years ago in the workshops at Leeds Grammar School…..

The Thunderbolt project got underway alongside another project to build a model Sentinel locomotive and after several years of work, quite a lot of which was outside school hours, Thunderbolt was completed. It was run at model shows and raised funds for charities.

Thought to have been consigned to history, Mark came across and acquired the locomotive, which was in a sorry state, and set about restoring it to its former glory…. and beyond !

Come along for Mark’s illustrated talk on this historical model….

As usual we will retire to a local hostelry for further socialising and refreshments…
