Summer Solstice Event – Thursday 20th June at 7.00pm
For many years we have arranged a social evening to coincide with the Summer Solstice. It has often taken the form of a short walk in a pleasant location to be followed by supper at a nearby hostelry.
In the past we have strolled around Farnley Park, Ogden Water, Temple Newsam, Newmillerdam and Shipley Glen to name but a few. It’s a chance to catch up with friends and acquaintances during the summer recess and have a bit of gentle exercise and a convivial supper.
For our social event this year Malcolm and Lynne have arranged an evening at a ‘Petanque‘ club in Heckmondwike. Location:- Algernon Firth Park, Heckmondwike, WF16 0HH. (Off the A638, close to the traffic lights at Greenside.) Website:- Petanque Club
For those unfamiliar with the game it falls into the category known as ‘Boules’ sports whereby players skilfully (?) launch their boules/balls towards a target ball. All equipment will be provided along with tuition for first timers. Anyone with their own boules are welcome to bring them along.
Rules of the game can be found in this short video:- www.youtube.com/watch?v=IjmLFKlVHlk
Depending on the numbers, teams of 2 or 3 will compete for a prize. This will be followed by supper at ‘The Marsh‘ in Cleckheaton. (28 Bradford Rd, Marsh, Cleckheaton BD19 5BJ)
Here’s to another enjoyable Summer Solstice Evening !
