For a few years we have arranged a social evening to coincide with the Summer Solstice. It has taken the form of a short walk in a pleasant location to be followed by supper at a nearby hostelry. We have had photo competitions and even a Frisbee throwing contest (which was the cause of quite a bit of hilarity !)
In the past we have strolled around Ogden Water, Temple Newsam, Newmillerdam and Shipley Glen to name but a few. It’s a chance to catch up with friends and acquaintances during the summer recess and have a bit of gentle exercise and a convivial supper. This year we will stroll along the banks of the Aire and Calder Navigation to be followed by supper and social.
Please meet at Woodlesford Lock at 6.45 pm for a 7.00 pm prompt start of the walk.
There is a small car park and on street parking nearby. The lock can be accessed from Pottery Lane either off the A642 or via Holmsley Lane/Church Street. The postcode for your Sat Navs is LS26 8PJ. See here for a map of the area, showing the Lock:- Woodlesford Lock
The walk will be along both sides of the canal, for a total distance of 2 miles, returning to the start point car park.
After the walk we will retire for supper and social at the Three Horse Shoes public house nearby at Oulton. There may even be a quiz ??? !!!
The supper needs to be booked as we are informed that cooking at the pub finishes at 8.30 pm. If you are requiring food please see the three menus and advise your choices to our Membership Secretary.
