Golf Report – July 2013 (Photos – After the Report…)
The 2013 Golf Tournament was held on Thursday 4th July at Wetherby Golf Club. Fifty-seven golfers, the largest group ever, enjoyed a superb summer’s day of golf rounded off by an excellent dinner and prize giving in the clubhouse.
Steve Stacey had bravely stepped in to organise the event after Kevin Hegarty had suffered a stroke several weeks earlier. Thankfully Kevin is on the mend but his doctors had advised that he cut back on the stress. He had organised the golf tournament for thirty seven years and on this day was happy to enjoy being a player without the hard work of keeping the competition in order. We are indebted to Kevin for his many years of dedication to making these golfing days so enjoyable.
This year we were joined by Alan Braime, the great-grandson of one of the founders of T.F. & J. H. Braime Ltd. who had donated the much prized silver ‘Braime Rose Bowl Trophy‘. This silver trophy has been awarded every year since 1936 to the best Leeds Association of Engineers member golfer. Only members of the association can take away the silverware, so we encourage non-members to join and have a chance to win these coveted prizes. Alan Braime kindly agreed to make the presentations of the silver trophies this year.
Steve Stacey, ably assisted by Gerry Allen, carefully totted up the scores and following the dinner the individual prizes were presented in descending order.

The prestigious prizes of silverware were awarded as follows:-
In third place for the Braime Trophy was Steve Stacey. Runner up in second place was Richard Langley-Webb. The biggest cheer of the evening came as Steve Stacey announced that Kevin Hegarty had won the Braime Trophy. Kevin spoke of his pleasure in winning the trophy and said how much he had enjoyed organising the golf for so many years. He thanked Steve Stacey for organising this year’s event so well and said he wondered how Steve had even managed to arrange such good weather !
The Charles Brass Trophy, awarded to the member with the best scores on the Par Threes, was won by Richard Thompson.
Immediate Past President Jaswinder Shergill won the prize of a silver tankard for the highest scoring member and guest.
