The President and Council are sad to report the passing of Brian Firth. Member Steve Gledhill broke the news to Membership Secretary Malcolm Murray.
Eur.Ing. J.Brian Firth, C.Eng., F.I.E.E., M.I.Mech.E. had been a long standing Fellow of the Institution of Electrical Engineers and Member of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers. Latterly he had been Yorkshire Chairman of the Institution of Engineering and Technology (I.E.T.) Brian’s enthusiasm for engineering, and in particular the training of young engineers, knew no bounds.
Brian was always keen to share knowledge, experience and expertise. He was instrumental in arranging joint lectures and visits with the Leeds Association of Engineers and other institutions. In 1995 Brian was the guest speaker at our Anniversary Dinner and attended many subsequent dinners where he would circulate chatting with members and guests. He will be missed by all those who knew him. We send our condolences to his family and friends at this sad time.
Steve Gledhill had been in touch with Brian’s son John who advised details of the funeral service for Brian and he intimated that members would be welcome to attend:-

Lawnswood Crematorium, Otley Road, Adel, Leeds LS16 6AH.
