7. Membership. We have two applications for membership this month, Mark Whitehead who is based in Cheshire proposed by Mr. Murray and seconded by Mr. Blakeley and Roger Letch former president of the association is applying to re-join after a break of several years. He is proposed by Mr. Murray and seconded by Mr. Toulson. Both were approved with a show of hands subject to ratification by the membership.
8. Annual Church Service. The annual church service at Leeds Parish Church will be on the 12th May followed by a free meal at the nearby Palace Hotel (local public house) for any member attending the service. Mr. Town (new president) will be reading the lesson.
9. Current Programme. We have a booking to visit the steam railway at Scunthorpe Steelworks on the 18th July from 7pm, this will be a 2 hour visit. We have to submit numbers this week so will have to give an estimate because we do not have time to get responses from our members in time. Mr. Murray will send out a circular advertising the Scunthorpe visit and our Solstice Walk at Five Rise Locks, followed by a quiz, in which we are competing against Keighley Association of Engineers.
10. Next Session. We are currently exploring possibilities for the next session. Mr. Aldersley has a contact through work who will give us a talk on bearings (he will need hotel accommodation). He also suggested we contact a company called Pilgrim who manufacture Drive Couplings, he feels they might offer us a factory visit. Mr Aldersley emailed U.T.C. Leeds proposing a link up with Leeds Association and us offering an award to one of their outstanding students, but as yet,we have not received a response. Mr. Town is also trying to make contact with U.T.C. through his Managing Director at work who meets with them on business. Mr. Bentley has got us a lecture on the build of a new locomotive that is to be manufactured in Darlington, the lecture is planned for 26th September 2019. Another possibility is Cummins Turbo of Huddersfield. Letter Shop, and Weiderman of Otley (paper mill) have both been contacted by Mr. Toulson and said they will get back to him. Mr. Aldersley has approached Anchor Carpets who say that we could possibly have two visits. They have two separate sites making different woven products. Worth Valley Railway (Haworth) offer visits around their repair shop but these are in daytime hours.
11. Website. Mr Toulson told us that both our website fees have been settled. The hosting fee is approximately £44 per year, and the domain name is £14.69 biennially. We need photographs of our latest council members, Mr. Roper and Ms. Burton, so they can be posted in the council section of the website. Mr. Kingswell will try uploading the You-tube video he created if Mr. Aldersley’s contact, Tom hasn’t done it in the next few weeks.
12. Golf. Mr Stacey reported the situation has changed. M.A. Ford would like to bring 16 players, instead of the original 4. He would ideally like to keep the number of players down to 39. Non players who wish to attend the evening meal will be welcome, cost will be £15 and the meal should be no later than 7.45pm. Sponsorship currently stands at around £500 and we have plenty of prizes. Mr Stacey said he will visit the golf club on the 10th June to finalise the menu. Jerry Allen is currently working back at Mitchell Fox, but will still be helping with the hosting of the tournament. Alan Braime is continuing as a sponsor and is playing in the tournament, he will bring one other player.
Any other Business. Mr. Town to contact Mr. Hegarty to arrange the booking at Headingley Golf Club for first council meeting of new season, 5th September 2019. Mr. Rogers will book R.E.A. meeting rooms for 2019 / 2020 lecture meetings. Also we need to book Corner House Club for council meetings. Having no other business Mr. Town closed the meeting.
