Mr. Murray said he will ask Mr. Jagger to look over the accounts to verify that everything is in order before they are presented to our members at the A.G.M. in 2023.

6. Correspondence. Mr. Murray questioned whether Mr. Town had received his email requesting information for the steam motorcyle record attempt at Elvington. Mr. Town said he did receive the email but did not have the information and therefore did not respond. Mr. Roper said the landlord of his local pub is involved with the group of people who organise the drag racing at Elvington (the group are known as the Straightliners). He said that the steam motorcycle is due to make two runs at Elvington on the weekend of 8th and 9th October this could be anytime between 8.30am and 5.00pm. Mr. Murray will send out an email to the membership in case any of them would like to attend. Mr. Rogers and Mr. Toulson will attend on behalf of council and write a brief report for the website. Mr. Murray has received an email from Steve Gledhill who has started a new business pressure testing coffee machines, he has relocated and is allowing us to visit his premises at the end of October where he will tell us all about his new venture. Mr. Murray also received an email from Allseas who have agreed to give us a lecture where they will discuss the challenges they faced in shipping an 8,000 tonne load from Japan to Hull (U.K.).

7. Membership. Our recipient of the Leeds Association of Engineers Student award Harry Soutar applied for membership he has been proposed by Mr. Aldersley and seconded by Mr. Toulson and was accepted by a show of hands by council members present. This will be verified at the next public meeting of the membership. Harry is keen to join council where he will surely contribute a number of new ideas and a new perspective.

8. Current Programme. Having no lecture available to us for September our vice President Mr. Aldersley volunteered to give us a talk on his lifelong training and competitive experiences in the martial arts. This proved to be a very informative and joyful evening which unfortunately was only attended by ten of our members. We discussed the remainder of the programme for which we need to get firm dates from our speakers / lecturers. This will allow us to release the programme to our membership although we still have gaps to fill. Our proposed dates are 27th October Steve Gledhill “Pressure Testing Of Coffee Machines”, 24th November Allseas Global Logistics, December nothing planned due to it being Christmas week, 26th January Nuclear Power by Ian Greaves (to confirm might be February lecture), 23rd February Barrie Yates subject to be confirmed, 30th March Mark Batchelor “Restoration & History of Thunderbolt a model steam locomotive”, 15th April Annual Dinner, 24th April A.G. M. followed by a lecture (to fill ), 14th May Annual Church service (proposal only to be agreed with vicar Leeds Parish Church) 27th June Solstice walk proposed repeat of last year’s walk. Mr. Kibler will check with Neil (one of our members) whether it would be possible to visit Sherburn Airfield where he is a member. Mr. Yates proposed that we make a number of Saturday visits to venues available to the general public. These were listed in last month’s minutes.

9. Next Session. Nothing to report.

10. Website. Nothing to report other than it is all up to date. A short report on the steam powered motorcycle will be added along with news on any record attempt being made.

11. Annual Golf Tournament. Mr. Stacey informed us by email that the golf deposit has been paid to secure the booking at Garforth Golf Club for Tuesday 4th July 2023. He will be giving our regular sponsors advance notice of the date but will not issue a “Golf Notice” until the spring of 2023.

12. Church Service. Nothing to report.

13. Student Award. Mr. Town presented Harry Soutar (student winner) with a Digital Caliper. The shield that we have awarded in the past has now been found, but needs an engraved badge with the recipient’s name to be attached before it can be presented, Mr. Yates will organise the manufacture of the badge.

14. Gavel & Quicksilver Certificate. These have now been located. Mr. Town agreed to be custodian of the Gavel and Mr. Yates has taken custody of the Quicksilver Certificate.
