In the early 80s the association paid a visit to Drax Power Station when it was then powered by coal. Some of you may have been on that visit…. Since then there have been some enormous changes and the facility now is using ‘Biomass’, a renewable fuel of the future. Tonight we revisit this world class facility….
Four new inflatable storage domes are now on site. Each is larger in volume than the Royal Albert Hall. Each dome can hold 300,000 tonnes of compressed wood pellets. This is a new era of biomass electricity generation….
Our tour starts at 7.00 pm prompt and will last two hours. Visitor buses will transport us around the site. The visit is limited to a maximum number of 30 people and so members will have priority over guests when booking is made.

We have been informed that we need to advise Drax of numbers visiting approximately two weeks before the visit and so we now advise that the Closing Date to Book will be Friday 12th May 2017.

The tour will require a modicum of physical stamina as there will be walking and climbing to a height of 23 feet up staircases with safety rails. Sensible, sturdy fully covered shoes must be worn along with long trousers. Any protective equipment required will be provided by Drax Visitor Centre.
