THE LEEDS ASSOCIATION OF ENGINEERS
Minutes of the Council Meeting held at 7.15pm on Thursday 3rd January 2019 at the Cornerhouse Club Leeds.
1. Attendance. J. Aldersley President in the chair with I. Scholes, J. Bentley, A. Rogers, S. Stacey, J. Shergill, J. Burton, G. Roper and I. Blakeley.
2. Apologies for absence. R. Town, G. Toulson, H. Kingswell , M. Murray, A. Kibler and K. Hegarty.
3. Minutes of the Previous Meeting, dated 6th December 2018 were approved & signed.
4. Matters Arising. None.
5. Treasurers Report. Mr. Kibler had sent an email apologising for his absence and included the financial transactions since the previous meeting. These were read out by Mr. Aldersley and are listed below. The account balance has been removed to allow posting on the internet.

Mr. Kibler also reported that we have not yet paid the £50 for the November lecture. Mr. Aldersley gave the gentleman a free membership so we have the details to enable us to make the payment.
6. Correspondence. Mr. Stacey had received a letter and C.V. from a friend’s 15 year old son. He is interested in a possible career in engineering. He is looking for one week work experience and wanted to know if anyone in our association might be able to help. The letter included details from his school that would require anyone taking him to produce a risk assessment. Unfortunately none of us are in a position to offer any help at this time. We felt he would struggle to get a short term placement. Mr. Aldersley told us he emailed Surgical Innovations with regards to a possible factory visit but did not get a response.
7. Membership. We have had no new applications for membership this month.
8. Annual Church Service. Mr. Scholes will contact Leeds Parish Church and suggest that the annual church service should take place on the 12th May 2019. The President of our association normally does one of the bible readings; this date is after our A.G.M. so Mr. Town will be President.
9. Current Programme. Mr. Shergill has been in touch with a friend who used to be a Civil Engineer on the railways and now works for British Steel at Scunthorpe. He has agreed to give us a lecture on the 28th February and said a daytime visit is available to the Scunthorpe site but this would require us to make a payment as it is run by an outside agency. Our next event is a factory visit to Drakes Extrusions on the 31st January 2019 (they are located in Drighlington).
10. Next Session. Nothing to report.
11. Website. We need to get photographs of our latest council members Mr. Roper and Ms. Burton, to Mr. Toulson for incorporating on our website.
12. Promoting Leeds Association. Mr. Kingswell has completed the video for use on YouTube. Ms. Burton our new council member thinks she might be able to get something in their company editorial telling of her position as the first ever lady council member at Leeds Association of Engineers. Ms. Burton works for SKF Bearings who we all know are a world renowned company.
13. Golf. Mr Stacey told us that the golf day will be on the 2nd July 2019 at Cobble Hall, this will be a Tuesday, requested by M.A. Ford who will be the main sponsor. Mr. Stacey has spoken to Alan Braime who is keen to continue his companies’ connection with the Leeds Association of Engineers. The Braime Trophy (main prize for Leeds Association members) has been contested for the last 83 years.
14. Annual Dinner. Mr. Kibler will contact Headingley Golf Club in the next week to confirm the date as 6th April 2019 and discuss the menu.
