Update on the LAE Golf Day for 2021 (Dated: 28th April 2021)
The event was re-scheduled for Wednesday 23rd June 2021, at Leeds (Cobble Hall) Golf Club. Due to the possible relaxation of Government restrictions targeted for Monday 21st, that is only 2 days before the event. As it is highly likely that social distancing will still be imposed it would make it impossible to hold our normal dinner and presentation, which is normally attended by several non-golfers as well as the players of the day. Also, although the club will be open to play golf, it feels that it probably will not be fully organised for any catering on the scale that we need, on that date.
I have had discussions with the golf club and decided that we cannot hold the golf day on the booked date, and will have to wait until we have moved to a more normal situation before re-organising it. It may be possible to consider September, but if there are any doubts the next event may have to be in June 2022. As the Government has stated “data rather than dates” will be used to determine relaxation of the restrictions, it may be some time before things improve. Hopefully the UK vaccination successful roll out may prevent a third wave like mainland Europe has experienced as restrictions are relaxed; let’s hope so. Also there are major concerns about foreign variants arriving in the UK as travel restrictions are lifted.
It would be a great shame to miss the event for a second year, but I feel that we should not hold it while there are still risks involved due to the virus.
