Tonight we have a lecture entitled ‘Bradford’s Railway that Almost was; the missed chance that made Bradford a Dead End

Come along to hear David Pearson tell us all about this interesting story. Here is David’s synopsis of his talk…..

Bradford has always suffered both socially and economically as a result of being at the end of three railway dead ends, two from Leeds and one from Manchester.  It’s the only city in Britain without at least one through railway route.  This is entirely due to 19th century railway politics and a lack of enterprise on the part of local and national politicians.  The building of the Broadway Centre means that yet another chance has been missed.  This talk looks at why Bradford’s railways face each other over Forster Square the schemes to make links, the motivation behind them and why they all failed.
