Report on the Anderton Boat Lift Visit…..

Summer Visit – Anderton Boat Lift – Northwich, Cheshire

The association has in the past arranged a summer visit and this year Malcolm and Lynne Murray kindly arranged a visit to the Anderton Boat Lift in Cheshire. The event was arranged for Wednesday 7th August 2024.

Andrew Kibler kindly provided this report and took photographs of the visit. (See below for photos.) Here is Andrew’s report:-

I am very pleased to say that it was well attended by sixteen members, partners and family. Although the weather didn’t play its part we were not to be put off. It started with boarding the canal boat at the top of the lift, before being lowered to the river level. Thankfully the boat was enclosed as it rained a little. Once on the river we were taken on a lovely river trip. All the time we were treated to a fabulous narration by the boat captain, who talked through the history, with dates, for the full journey. He involved everyone on the boat and was praised for his narration by all aboard. We left the boat while on the river but their courtesy didn’t stop there. They gladly offered a ride back up the steep hill for those unable to tackle it. We then had lunch before attending a general talk about the boat lift. Given by two very enthusiastic girls. Their presentation centred on the boat lift but covered many other aspects of ownership, funding, development, costs of repair and future. Any visit should include this. All in all it was a very good day out, well attended and enjoyed by all. Even my granddaughter!
