Council Meeting Minutes – September 2012

 THE LEEDS ASSOCIATION OF ENGINEERS

Minutes of the Council Meeting held at 7.15pm on Thursday  6th September 2012 at Headingley Golf Club 

  1. Attendance. J. Shergill (President) in the chair with A. Kibler, J. Aldersley, B. Yates, M. Murray, T. Ashton, M. Armstrong (trustee) and I. Blakeley.  Mr. Shergill welcomed everyone to the first council meeting of the new session and thanked Mr. Hegarty for organising the food and the venue.

2.   Apologies for absence.  A. Rogers, G. Toulson, J. Bentley.

3.   Minutes of the Previous Meeting, dated 10th May 2012 were read, approved & signed.

4.   Matters Arising.  None.

5.   Treasurers Report.  Mr. Bentley was unable to attend the meeting but submitted his report by email. This has been reproduced below but he says he will elaborate on this at the next council meeting. His email said Mr. Hegarty has now balanced the Golf Day Accounts but this is not shown in the figures below.

Mr. Bentley’s email said that total bank assets at 1st September 2011 were (not disclosed in  Council minutes) although subscriptions had been paid early this still shows a significant overspend which needs to be discussed at the October meeting.

6.   Annual Church Service.  The Annual Church Service was on the 20th May; unfortunately Mr. Shergill was not able to attend, so Mr. Kibler (vice-president) took the reading in his place. There seems to be some confusion regarding the date for the 2013 Annual Church Service Mr. Yates will contact Tony Bundock (Rector of Leeds Parish Church) to confirm.

7.   Correspondence. None.

8.   Current Programme. Programme all as described in Mr. Yates email to council members, with exception of the factory visit to Constar, this might need to be moved because of difficulty with proposed date. It was agreed the programme should go out with date to be advised next to the Constar visit. Mr. Murray brought a sample of the A4 programme poster, which will be sent out with the request for subscriptions.

9.   Membership. Nothing to report.

10. Next Session. Nothing to report, the new session is just about to start.

11. Website. Council are very happy with the look of the new website, comments from the membership have all been positive. Mr. Blakeley asked how the private council area of the website could be accessed.  Mr. Kibler said this has not been created yet, but he will look at creating one. Mr. Yates said that we need to feed new information / articles to Mr. Kibler and Mr. Toulson so that the website can be updated much more frequently to keep the membership interested. Mr. Shergill said he will send the photographs from the golf day for insertion on the website.

12. Golf. Mr. Hegarty commented that the 40 people who attended, all had a good day. The weather was excellent and everyone went away with a prize. He said the trophy winner was Steve Stacey and as usual the event broke even.

13. Annual Dinner. Mr. Murray asked whether the survey circulated after the last dinner revealed why the membership seem reluctant to attend. However Mr. Rogers the recipient of the survey was not present so we will discuss at the next council meeting.

Any other Business.  Having no other business Mr. Shergill closed the meeting.
